About Missing People UK

Missing People UK is a community-led platform that helps families, friends and neighbours raise fast, focused awareness when someone goes missing. We combine a live map, searchable database, Amber Alerts and printable posters to get the right information in front of the right people, as quickly as possible.

Built and maintained as a not-for-profit project, the platform is designed to work alongside β€” not instead of β€” the police and specialist charities. Our priority is always safeguarding, privacy and dignity for the people involved.

How it works

The platform is designed to be simple, safe and effective for families, volunteers and partners.

  • Submit a report with a recent photo, last seen location and any relevant details.
  • We place a pin on the map and generate a shareable case page with a unique reference.
  • Tips submitted by the public are routed to authorised admins for review and follow-up.
  • Amber Alerts (under-18s) are highlighted site-wide and can trigger push notifications to subscribers.
  • Accessibility: pages are mobile-friendly, printable and designed for readability.
  • Every case page shows clear next steps so people know how to report sightings, contact the police or share the case responsibly.

Halo and map pin colours

We use colour-coded halos and map pins to make it easier to understand risk at a glance while you browse.

  • πŸ”΄ Red halo / pin: Under 18 (Amber-style alert) – children and young people where time is especially critical.
  • 🟑 Yellow halo / pin: 65+ or elderly – older adults who may be confused, vulnerable or at higher risk outdoors.
  • 🟒 Green halo / pin: Mental health concerns – people where there are known mental health or wellbeing risks.
  • πŸ”΅ Blue halo / pin: General missing cases and other situations that don’t fit the above categories.

These colours are there to help focus attention β€” they do not replace official risk assessments made by the police or safeguarding teams.

Partner with us

We collaborate with local charities, councils and law enforcement to improve outcomes and share information responsibly. If you are part of a frontline service or support organisation, we would love to explore how we can work together.

  • Memoranda of Understanding and clear data-sharing protocols.
  • Training for staff and volunteers on safeguarding and privacy.
  • Simple integrations for secure tip intake and case updates.
  • Support for awareness campaigns and local community outreach.

Create a printable poster

Our poster generator helps you turn a case into a clear, printable Missing Person poster in seconds. It pulls through the person's photo, name, age and last-seen area so you can display it in local shops, community boards or share as a PDF.

Posters are laid out for standard A4 printing and are designed to be easy to read at a distance, with a strong headline and clear contact instructions. You can reprint them as the case is updated.
